Toyota Indus Corolla 2000 Owner’s Review: Specs & Features

Toyota Indus Corolla enjoyed widespread popularity and healthy sales figures in Pakistan. It is still a popular family-sized sedan that can easily fit five people for a comfortable ride. The car under review is a 2000 model of Toyota Indus Corolla. Indus Corolla was in production from 1993 to 2001.

There were many variants in the Indus Corolla. In the 1300cc category, there were two variants – GL and XE. The Gli variant came with a 1600cc engine, and 2.0D came with a 2000cc engine. There was a 2.0D special edition, XEG, and 2.0DG variants, as well. In 1993, this car was around PKR 440,000, and at the time of its discontinuation in 2001, it was priced at around PKR 800,000.

This car falls in the budget car category, and a well-maintained Indus Corolla will cost you around PKR 650,000 to PKR 850,000. The car under review is modified, and it is not in its standard condition. From 1993 to 2001, both local and Japanese-imported models were available in Pakistan. Corolla has a rich heritage in Pakistan; therefore, Indus Corolla still has widespread demand in Pakistan. 

Exterior and Interior: 

The exterior design language of the Indus Corolla is simple yet elegant. It has round corners and a typical sedan look. The headlights and the taillights are also round and simple in styling. Both the headlights and taillights are halogen. The ground clearance of Indus Corolla is also optimal for the roads of Pakistan.

Features in the interior include power steering, power windows, power mirrors, and air conditioning. There are also variants without the power windows and power mirror features. The Indus Corolla also came with an rpm meter integrated into the instruments cluster for the driver. Speakers are integrated into the doors. 

There are cupholders for the front passengers. There is a central armrest at the front for the driver. There is also a small digital clock in the dashboard right next to the climate control vents. The design of the dashboard is round and simple, as well, just like the exterior design. Also, the dashboard is single-tone in color. Storage compartments are also optimal in the car’s interior. The headroom is also optimal for an average-sized adult both in the front and the rear. The Indus Corolla is a family sedan with a big boot and sizeable legroom for both the front and the rear passengers.

Engine and Performance: 

This car has a 2000cc diesel engine that has a lot of torque and provides quick and smooth acceleration. Other options for engines include 1300cc and 1600cc, both of which are petrol-powered. The fuel average for this car in the city is around 11 km/l with air conditioning and 18 km/l on the highway. The car also comes with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, which improve the braking of this car. The Indus Corolla does not have ABS brakes. The Indus Corolla came with both manual and automatic variants. The car under review has a manual transmission. Since it is an old car, you can easily swap your old engine with a new one from the market at economical rates. 

Verdict: 

The spare parts for Indus Corolla are readily and easily available from the market at affordable rates. Therefore, the maintenance of this car is easy and economical. Furthermore, mechanics understand this car thoroughly throughout Pakistan; therefore, this car can get fixed from anywhere. Parts for modifications are also readily available from the market. Moreover, the resale market is very active, and you can buy or sell an Indus Corolla easily. However, diesel variants can be expensive to maintain and keep in the long run. In the budget of PKR 600,000 to 800,000, this is a perfect family-size sedan.
