While there were many assumptions regarding its debut, last week the famed German maker officially unveiled Porsche Cayenne Coupe, challenging the likes of BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

In an official statement, Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG said, “The Coupe includes all the technical highlights of the current Cayenne, but has an even more dynamic design and new technical details that position it as more progressive, athletic, and emotional.”

Even though Cayenne Coupe design follows the typical crossover style with an increasingly sloped roof-line, many have dubbed its peculiar shape as ‘unusually attractive,’ when compared to its competitors. Likewise, where its signature sloped roof-line links it to its executive class sibling, Porsche Panamera, its dramatic front-look is attributed to a shallower front windshield, narrower A-pillar, and a 20 millimeters lower roof edge. In addition to this, the latest changes to its rear doors as well as the fenders further complement Cayenne Coupe’s angles by extending the width 18 millimeters.

When talking about the custom design elements, Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche remarked about Coupe’s elegance saying, “The significantly more steep roofline that falls away to the rear makes the Cayenne Coupe appears even more dynamic, and positions it as the sportiest-looking model in the segment.”

But this is not the end every happy owner of this crossover will enjoy a 2.16 square-meter panoramic view with a fixed-glass roof, plus an optional carbon top. Moreover, adaptive spoilers for both the roof and rear are also available. Adaptive roof spoilers come from the standard Cayenne, while the adaptive rear spoilers (extends 135 millimeters at 90 km/h or up) are the latest development.

During the launch event, two options were available for the engine:

  • A turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder – Generates 335 horsepower hp with a 450 Nm torque. This engine would make the latest crossover’s sprint to ~97 km/h in 6.0 seconds or with mild improvement of 5.9 seconds with the same engine plus the Sport Chrono Package.
  • A twin turbo 4.0 liter v8 – Compared to the turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder, Cayenne Coupe Turbo’s V8 engine brings out a 541 hp with a 770 Nm torque. Now, to reach the same ~97 km/h, it takes the Cayenne Coupe 3.9 seconds with a maximum speed of ~285 km/h. Either this or reach the said performance benchmark (~97 km/h) in 3.7 seconds with the v8 engine and the Sport Chrono Package.

The starting price tag for Cayenne Coupe is set at US $73,500, meanwhile, for the Cayenne Coupe Turbo, the starting price tag is $130,500. The official availability for Cayenne Coupe is May the earliest, but enthusiasts are able to place their orders as of past week.
