The 1st Generation Toyota Aygo was introduced in 2005. The 2005 Toyota Aygo is a front engine front wheel drive subcompact hatchback. The Toyota Aygo 1st Generation was introduced when the presidents of the Toyota and Peugeot Citroen decided to produce a small car to share development cost. The Toyota Aygo 2005 is mechanically identical to the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 107. When released the 1st Generation Toyota Ago was one of the cheapest cars available in Europe. The Toyota Aygo received a facelift in 2009 that included a series of minor cosmetic upgrades and another facelift in 2012 that featured a slight refresh to the styling. The Toyota Aygo 1st Generation is available in 2 versions 3-door hatchback and 5-door hatchback. The 2005 Toyota Aygo was available in 5 different variants Aygo Active, Aygo Active Plus, Aygo Mode, Aygo Move, Aygo Move with Style. Production of the 1st Generation Toyota Aygo lasted for 10 years, the Toyota Aygo was available to purchase the years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and the year 2015.

The exterior of the 1st Generation Toyota Aygo features a fairly unique and distinctive design language. The front end houses angular upswept triangular style headlights, a small trapezium styled grille, a trapezium styled air intake and an outward sticking bumper. The rear end houses angular side swept taillights with circular inserts, an outward sticking bumper and a small standard case hatchback. The 1st facelift variant of the Toyota Aygo features new clearer triangular style upswept headlights, a new front bumper with a smaller triangular style air intake and circular fog lights. The rear end houses the same taillights but with chrome accents. The 2nd facelift variant of the Toyota Ago features more angular and slightly more aggressive design language. The headlights feature a sleeker and sharper styling and the front bumper features a large trapezium styled intake. The overall exterior of the 2005 Toyota Aygo features a unique design language that is able to stand out amongst its rivals.

The interior of the 2005 Toyota Aygo features the use of gray and silver plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features include a 2-speker stereo audio system, front power windows, power steering, power lock doors, tachometer and air conditioning. The Aygo Active Plus features body colored wing mirrors caps and door handles and a 4-speaker stereo audio system.
