The all-new MG RX8 is the rebadged vehicle of the Roewe RX8 that is manufactured by Chinese automobile company SAIC. Roewe RX8 was revealed in 2018 at Auto Show held in Beijing while the 2020 MG RX8 was unveiled at Alyousaf Motors showroom Shaikh Zayed Road. It has been introduced as a seven-seater compact SUV car and will be available in the Pakistani market in 2022.
The RX 8 is available in 3 trims- the 2-wheel drive comfort trim, the 2-wheel drive standard trim, and the all-wheel-drive luxury trim. In Pakistan, only the luxury trim will be available.
MG RX8 Exterior
The MG RX 8 has a sleek and modern design which makes it stand out from its competitors. The bold chrome grille in the front fits perfectly with the dual-slot hood and silver lip. The LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights (DRLs) have a modern and captivating design. Front fog lamps and sleek chrome exhausts add to the beauty of the car’s design. The rear end looks stylish with hammer-style LED taillights and a rear spoiler with an LED brake light. The rear window has a rear wiper and a wide and flexible opening.
The headlamps have the auto On/Off and follow me home function. Side mirrors have integrated indicators and are power-adjustable along with power heating. On top of that, the windshields are tinted to reduce glare. It also has a panoramic sunroof to let in more light and give the car a touch of more openness. The 20-inch alloy wheels are another dealbreaker in the RX 8.
MG RX8 Interior
The luxury trim RX 8 has a complete leather interior and is jampacked with all the best features. The power driver’s seat is adjustable in 8 directions and provides manual lumbar support while the front passenger seat is power-adjustable in 4 directions. Ventilation and heating feature is also available for front seats. Front seats and door mirrors have memory feature while the front seatbelts have the feature of height adjustment. The front power windows come with anti-pinch technology.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel has the feature of 4-way manual adjustment. The sun visor is illuminated and the glove box comes with illumination and cooling features. The multi-function steering wheel allows access to multimedia controls. The car allows keyless entry and has push-button start technology.
The dual-zone climate control air conditioner has vents in the rear end of the car as well. Rear climate control, paired with the car’s air cleaner, makes the inner environment clean and fresh for the passengers. The MG RX 8 comes with the feature of wireless charging and on top of that it has two power outlets, one of 220V and the other trunk outlet is of 12V. The 7-inch virtual instrument panel showcases all the driver-assist information.
The mechanical dashboard houses a 10-inch touch screen display with Android Auto and Apple Carplay enabled, AM/FM/ Radio, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. The MG RX 8 also has safety and driver-assist features such as hill descent control, active rollover protection, lane departure warning, etc. Powertrain Control Module, Rear Axle Differential Lock, engine immobilizer along with the complete electronic stability program is also available in the RX 8.
The car has ample boot space and the rear seats also come with the 60/40 split feature to increase storage space. The power tailgate makes it easy to open it remotely. The interior comes in three colors- beige, black, and brown.
MG RX8 Engine
The MG RX 8 has a 2.0 turbocharged 1995cc engine. It generates a power of 220hp @ 5500rpm at a torque of 360Nm @ 4000rpm. The 6-speed automatic transmission vehicle can go from zero km/h to 100km/h in just 9.1 seconds.

MG RX8 Ride & handling
The MG RX 8 is great for driving around town and for off-road adventures. Its strong chassis supports driving in rough conditions and its real-time TOD (torque on demand) system changes the torque in 0.1 seconds which is impressive.
The four-wheel drive has six driving modes. Auto mode is for driving at low speeds and high torque, the off-road driving mode is for driving off the road, snow mode allows driving smoothly on wet surfaces, sport mode is for driving at high speeds, the 2H mode is for fuel efficiency and ECO mode is for an environment-friendly drive.

Although MG RX 8 will arrive as CBU in Pakistan, its auto parts will be easily available and its maintenance will also be easy.
MG RX8 Competitors
In the Pakistani market, MG RX 8 will be giving a strong competition to Toyota Fortuner, Kia Sorento, Changan Oshan X7 plus, and DFSK Glory 580 pro.
Toyota Fortuner is a popular car in the Pakistani automobile market due to the versatile features it provides. An SUV that is suitable for driving in the city as well as for off-roading, packed with luxurious features is a perfect vehicle but the MG RX 8 beats Fortuner when it comes to the price bracket. The RX 8 is less expensive than Fortuner and also provides a wider wheelbase.
Kia Sorento is another car that became a consumer favourite as soon as it was introduced and shares similar features with the RX 8. It also falls in the same price bracket as that of the RX 8 but does not have as wide a wheelbase as that of the RX 8.
DFSK Glory 580 pro is another strong competitor in the same price bracket and shares several features with the MG RX 8 but the latter has a stronger engine with more fuel capacity and better performance.
