About Mitsubishi Pakistan

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) is Japan's fourth largest automobile manufacturer. The company entered twice in the Pakistani auto market and sold historic cars to the elite class. However, Mitsubishi could not survive in the country because buyers could never have a good after-sales experience with this brand and because their prices became unrealistically high over time. Dewan Mushtaq Motor Company (DMMC) was the local partner in Pakistan who used to import Mitsubishi cars from Japan and sell them in the local market. Mitsubishi Lancer, Mitsubishi Pajero, and Mitsubishi Galant were the three most iconic Mitsubishi cars in Pakistan.

History of Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi cars were first introduced in Pakistan in the 1980s. Soon after the launch, the cars became a status symbol in the country. The Japanese car brand disappeared from the Pakistan market in the late 1990s and then reappeared in 2004. Dewan Mushtaq Group relaunched the Mitsubishi range of vehicles in Pakistan and the public welcomed them back. The 1.3 and 1.6 litre Lancers, 2.5-litre V6 Glalant, and Pajero won the hearts of Pakistanis, once again. Dewan Group then added two hatchbacks, Ek Wagon and Mirage, to the Mitsubishi lineup. Both were hits in the Pakistani market. Although Mitsubishi Japan is still making hits in many international markets, the brand is long gone from Pakistan.

Performance and Technology in Mitsubishi Vehicles

All Mitsubishi cars in Pakistan were top choices in their respective categories.

Mitsubishi Pajero

Mitsubishi Pajero made its debut in January 1983 at the Dakar Rally. It was available in both 3-door and 5-door versions and came equipped with a variety of engine options including 2.0 & 2.6 liter petrol, 2.3 liter diesel, 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol, 2.3 and 2.5 liter turbo diesel and 3.0 liter V6 petrol. Available transmission choices were 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. The car remained the first choice of elites in Pakistan but was later dethroned by Toyota Land Cruiser and Prado.

Mitsubishi Lancer

Mitsubishi Lancer was another iconic car in Pakistan. The country last saw the 8th generation of Lancer between 2004 and 2010. The performance of Lancer was unmatched in the sedan segment and the look was also unique. The dual-tone color schemes made the car stand out from the rest of the lot. The first-ever Lancer in Pakistan came with a 1.3-litre engine and, over the generations, its engine capacity went as high as 1.9 and 2.0 litre.

Mitsubishi Ek Wagon

The 3rd Generation Mitsubishi EK Wagon came to Pakistan in 2013. The car has an uncanny resemblance with Nissan Dayz and comes with a 0.66-litre engine with CVT automatic transmission. Although it's a small car, the Ek Wagon carries the same class as other Mitsubishi models. Sleek side-swept headlights, a rectangular chrome grille, and a trapezium air intake on the large front bumper.
