I went to Shimshal back in 2002 after getting inspiration to see this hidden and mystic valley as narrated by Mustansar Sahib in his book "Shimshall Bemesaal". I reached Passu and stayed overnight and then went on a day long visit to Shimshal. The cost then was Rs. 2000 for a return journey.
Shimshal is famous for High Altitude climbers. Two Pride-of -Performance winners i.e. Rajab Shah and Meherbaan Shah are form shimshal. I've met Meherbaan Shah and he treated me like his long lost relative. I still remember when I shook hand with the man it was piece of rock. Each and everyone from Shimshal is a climber by nature. Qudrat Ullah is a prodigous guy having conquered Nanga Parbat at such a young age.He is also from Shimshal. So dont worry you'll get plenty of help and advice from all corners. The only concern is as this a climbing season most of Shimshalis might be away to make a living in short summer window.
Passu is right on the KKH after you've crossed karimabad (Hunza) and Huusaini village. You may stay in Passu Inn (expensive) 05822-50004, 0321-9277881 or opt for Batura Inn 05822 50003 for an economical version.
Be prepared to be awe-struck when you see the glacier right from KKH close to Passu.
All the best and have an adrenalin-filled and safe journey as we'll have our fingers crossed to witness another high altitude performance by you.
By the way, my quest for jeep is over and purchased Jeep Cherokee 96 model. Its is undergoing some maintenance right now and will post pics soon. Hopefully we might travel together soon.
Allah de Hawaley!!!!
