Why is this thread dead, I wonder? Do people don't care about flashing anymore or what?
Anyhow, read this article a while ago on XDA and it got me pretty excited:
https://www.xda-developers.com/obscure-mediatek-phone-kernel-source-android-oreo-project-treble/
You might be aware that installing a custom ROM on a smartphone with a Mediatek Chipset is next to impossible because Mediatek doesn't release the kernel source code of its SoCs. And since most smartphone makers who use Mediatek Chips (Qmobile, Infinix, Lenovo etc) don't care about OS updates, users get stuck with The OS their phones come pre-installed with.
But this is going to change soon.
As it turns out in the mentioned XDA Article, you don't need kernel source code anymore thanks to Project Treble introduced with Android Oreo as the 'vendor code' is now separate from the core OS. So... If you buy a cheap, unknown Android running Oreo 8.0 or 8.1 (Lets say, a cheap Qmobile), chances are that you'll be able to flash AOSP Android P and above quite easily!
Custom ROM Flashing is revolutionizing and people here are sound asleep!
