A lot of people don't understand that China doesn't need to "copy" in the regular sense, specially when it comes to EVs.
Up until very recently, any manufacturer who wanted to sell their vehicles in the Chinese market had to partner with a local Chinese company in joint venture and outsource parts manufacturering to local suppliers as well.
So the Chinese industry already has a ton of experience in building "original" OEM parts for makers from all over the world including Europeans and Japanese.
Any Chinese manufacturer simply needs to source same or similar parts from the exact same suppliers, and given how lax the IP and Patent laws are in China when it comes to IP of foreign origin, they can simply take whatever they want and most of the time, the other party can't really do anything about it.
So basically anything a Chinese manufacturer even "copies" is as good as the original majority of the time.
And this excludes the fact that they are actually leaders in the EV space to begin with...
