Who’s up for a Honda Civic Type R pickup truck?

Inspired from the successful and attention-winning attempt of BMW’s custom M3 pickup trucks that looked beefy and had the speed at the same time, Honda has also decided to mix some things that aren’t meant to be mixed together. The company’s team of engineers at the Civic hatchback factory in the U.K. has built a pickup truck out of a 2018 Civic Type R performance car. Surely enough, the car looks a mixture of both, awkward and awesome.

If you start noticing it from the front side – which is impossible to do – the part where you might be shocked is the B-pillars, there is no Civic Type R 2018 after the B-pillars, its all chopped off to create the truck bed. Steel sheets cover the truck bed itself with diamond patterns on them. The engineers were able to retain the sassy curves of the original car and shaped the top and the sides of the truck bed to mimic the original curves. They were successful in making the upgrade look so natural that it almost feels like a puzzle that you just can’t figure out.

The surprises don’t end here. A spoiler is placed around the tailgate of the truck and (here it comes) the tailgate opens up like a trunk of a car instead of dropping down like a pickup truck. The Civic Type R pickup truck also features a sports bar and auxiliary lights – an identity of a true pickup truck. Back in the truck bed, the engineers also fitted two Honda generators to power anything from tools to washing machines.

According to the company, the Civic Type R pickup keeps all the performance parts of the original 2018 Civic Type R hatchback. The same four-cylinder engine producing about 360 horsepower is fitted under the hood. The company has claimed the truck’s top speed to be over 165 miles per hour. And since the foundation car of this pickup truck is quite popular for its performance, the company also decided to take the truck to Nurburgring race track. The engineers hoped to set a new top-speed record for front-wheel-drive pickup trucks. The truck did go to Nurburgring and did set a new top-speed record in the FWD pickup trucks category.
